Decisions to Make Empty Re: Decisions to Make

Post  Draft Sun Mar 18, 2012 3:56 pm

The sun showered the desert in immense heat. The loosened parts of Draft's clothes blew in the wind, a wind which was keeping Draft going. Without his jacket, no protection. With it, possible heat stroke. He wasn't willing to take those chances.

He tried to keep his dagger withdrawn, but he decided it was best to leave it holstered. It now strapped to his arm, he continued walking. He didn't know where he was, or where he was going, but he did know that staying at a deserted military base in the middle of no where was not a good plan. The smell of dead had finally left him, and he could breath in the fresh air.

A small town was visible on the horizon, but he didn't know whether or not that would be a good destination either. After consideration, he decided anything was better than the sweltering sun.

After about half and hour of his seemingly endless trek, he reached the outskirts of the town.

The scene before him was gruesome, several walkers were about, and many more lie dead. This was just outside the city. The town seemed to be a small village, but a protective wall was built around it after the infection let out. By the looks of the massive opening in the wall, it failed it's job. The dead were also evidence of that.

Draft must have wandered to close, for a zombie had hobbled a bit out of line, and evidently picked up his scent. A blood-churning growl let out, and around 4 zombies shuffled towards him. Draft took immediate action, and summoned his reserve energy. A quick dash brought him within 15 feet of the zombies, and the zombies began an all out charge.

"Ugh..." Draft sighed.

He drew his dagger and placed it in the skull of the closest zombie. After removing his blade her performed a roll. He rose to his full height, with a lifting jab. He brought his dagger into the nose of another walker. Blood erupted once he withdrew his blade, evidence that he had connected with the brain, and the walker dropped. By this time, the other walkers were upon him. With a false sense of courage, he slid his dagger into the head of one, and used all the force he could muster to push the victim into his friend. As the two fell down, the living one stirred about, trying to stand. Draft tried to take his blade back, but was unable to, for the still living walker grabbed at him when he reached for the hilt.

After a moment of hesitation, the living zombie made his way to his feet. Draft panicked and went in for a punch. The zombie reached at him, so he backed away.

"Here goes nothing." Draft said quickly, then jumped and performed a turn. As he spun, he brought his leg around with as much force as he could put forth. A cracking sound followed by a scream let Draft know of his success. The fourth zombie dropped, and Draft retrieved his dagger.

His next move was into the town.

There was no movement in the town once he entered. Though, he could hear something down the road from him. A scream cried out in the distance, a living scream, so Draft raced to find the source. He rounded a corner, and entered what he assumed was the town square. In the middle was a large fountain surrounded by dead bush sprouts, the fountain was obviously not pouring water. The outline of the base of the platform the fountain was on also had dead bush remnants. The road went into a square, which was bordered by sidewalk on either side. In the center of the square lied the fountain. A small group of walkers were in pursuit of a young teenage boy. The kid had only a baseball bat, but because of the proximity of the walkers, no room to swing it. Draft had a quick decision to make.

"Do I save him?" Draft thought. His mind raced over the possibilities. After imagining help in the same situation, he raced in to aid the kid. On the ground nearby, a corpse clinged to a shotgun. Draft wrestled it out of it's grasp, and checked it's chamber. "Thank god, it's loaded." He cocked it back, and then raced in. "I'm coming!" Draft shouted, so the teen would know help had arrived.

Once draft could get a clear shot, he sent a projectile at the horde. They were a few feet from the boy at this point, but Draft as careful to aim for them, and not him. The horde trampled over their fallen ally, and continued their chase. Draft sent another round in, and again, a zombie fell.

"Four to go."

Draft pulled the loading mechanism back and tried to fire again, the gun clicked, but nothing came out. Thinking quickly, he turned the gun around and used the barrel as a handle. He drew his dagger and then dual wielded the gun and blade. He charged at the horde. Exactly what he hadn't wanted to happen, did. The horde brought the teen to the ground. The tearing sound let him know that his rescue plan had fell.

Draft still had to fight the group. He sneaked up on them, while they were busy eating. He started by driving his dagger into the skulls of two of them, using sheer speed to pierce the bone. The two went limp on top of their group. Draft used blunt force to knock one of the remaining two away. He came back at Draft, but Draft met it with his dagger. A stab to the head ended him, and Draft could move onto- what he thought- was the final zombie. He swipe at the zombies head, and it retaliated by stopping it's meal and whirling around to combat it's foe. Draft stabbed quickly and pulled back. The zombie reacted by falling to Draft's feet. Dead.

Draft let out a sigh of relief, and move forward to inspect the man he failed to save. The kid's stomache and legs had been devoured. The legs were less than bone, and the stomache was void of anything besides bones. It was revolting to say the least. The most shocking part was when the boy began to move. The cavity formerly known as his stomach collapsed as he sat up. Draft wondered whether or not it was a human. The thought of it being anything other than pure evil left his mind in seconds. The boy reached for his shin's.

Draft was so surprised by the attack, that he fell backward. His dagger slipped out of his hand, but he still held the shotgun. The teen had a grip on Draft's feet. Draft began crawling backward. He bashed at the zombie's head with the stock of his gun. The zombie slowed, but he continued his fight. As he brought himself back, Draft's hand landed on the shell of a bullet. Draft's heart raced as he loaded the gun. He pulled the loading lever back, and placed the barrel on the skull of his attacker. He pulled the trigger, and watched as the zombie's head fell onto his own knees.

Draft crawled out from under the zombie, and snatched the wallet of the fallen man. With the trouble the teen caused him, Draft found he deserved a reward.

He lived to fight another day. His friend did not.
